Sustainability is at the heart of our ethos at Ark. Lighting can account for up to 40% of electricity usage on commercial premises, so our team of designers, installers and product manufacturers prioritise lighting solutions that work with the environment not against it.

The World's Most Sustainable
Shopping Centre
Accredited by the Living Building Challenge, Melbourne’s Burwood Brickworks is the World’s Most Sustainable Shopping Centre.
As a contributing lighting supplier to this climate-conscious project, Ark was required to meet the requirements across environmental and social sustainability:
- Lighting design meets all illuminance & uniformity requirements as per AS1680 (Minimum lighting levels required for specific tasks)
- Lighting Power Density is no greater than 5 Watts per m2
- All lights to have a CRI at least 80
- Any light fitting with ballast must be high frequency ballasts
- All lamps have diffusers, baffles etc to prevent direct visual exposure to the lamp
- Must have the ability to control the lighting levels to suit their task and the background lighting conditions eg.dimmable lighting or localised task lighting
Reducing our carbon footprint
Reducing, re-using and recycling packaging
We’ve worked with our manufacturers and suppliers to achieve a goal of Plastic-Free in 2023 across our product packaging.
Paperless processes
Our consultation, design and administration teams prioritise electronic records over unnecessary document printing.
Sustainable purchasing
We purchase for a high-quality targeted market, avoiding stock wastage. All products are sourced from reputable manufacturers, with in-person quality control reviews.
Sourcing eco-friendly products
Ark products are manufactured using recyclable aluminium and PC plastic. All products are lab-tested to confirm their non-toxic status.
Minimising transport
Our R&D team created an adjustable lighting product, designed to span different colour temperatures and design applications. Ark will be able use this one product in multiple ways, minimising stock wastage and product shipments.
